Socials 10: A Bug's Life Assignment

Choose one of the following to complete, you can add it to either your quest on Friday or your interactive notebook.

1. Uprising: Revolt to Democracy – Postulate(assume) that either the Ants or the Grasshoppers will have an uprising against their current leader(s), turning to a democratic society.  Create a timeline with important events that will need to occur for the Ants or Grasshoppers to have a successful democratic government.  Use the CBC Report, Egypt Uprising, as a basis for your ideas.  Here is the link:  http://stream.hpedsb.on.ca/cbc/egypt.html

2. Political Cartoon - Create a political cartoon based on a major issue in the Ant or Grasshopper society. Be sure to use techniques such as colour, labelling, symbols, and so on. Your cartoon must be effective enough to relate the topic without explanation.

3. Crime Report - Write a 1/2 page newspaper article (heading, by-line, 3 columns) about an alleged crime that has occurred in A Bug's Life. Be sure to include the scenario, a breakdown of the two elements of a crime (actus reus and mens rea), and the most appropriate sentencing option. Remember it is alleged! Also keep in mind that newspaper articles include: who, what, when, where, why, and how.

ACTUS REUS
- guilty action
- must be voluntary
- must be conscious (aware)

MENS REA
- guilty mind
- must be intentional
- must knowingly commit the act
